2009 Killjoy Cycling team kits unveiled

We’re pretty fortunate to partner with four great cycling organizations:

The Killjoy Team
World Bicycle Relief
The Dirt Derby
The Bonebell (new site design coming soon)

So when Kevin Heppner asked if we could help design new logos for our favorite team (Joe’s a member), we jumped. Kevin made the new logo a center piece and pulled a 180º from previous designs with a clean kit that’s sure to stand out at the front of the field filled with overdone design and high sponsor counts.

Front and back, yellow and black – and a Stalelife logo that adds a splash of color in a subtle place.

The horizontal logotype is highly visible on a racer's thighs - perfect for the Chicago Cross Cup courses this team will dominate.

Look around Chicago and Austin, you’re sure to see this kit on the dirt and on the streets this year.

You may recall that we created poster concepts for the The Best of the Midwest Awards. The overall winner from our unofficial poll of the three concepts was number one, which ended up being the organizer’s favorite, too.

There were some subtle modifications to the original – for instance the zippo/camera was removed and the cascading line elements now resemble actual film, but overall the initial creative remains intact.

If you’re a fan of independent film, be sure to get your tickets right away – the BIG show is next Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008. All profits will help fund next year’s awards.

The King gave me his wallet.

Picture this… two Stalelifers walk to a big meeting to propose alternative marketing ideas to The Chicago Tribune. Along the way, on Lower Wacker Drive, one of the pair sees a wallet lying on the ground.

Joe: “Kurt, check this out, someone dropped a wallet.”

Kurt: “No way, is there an ID?”

Sure enough, there was an ID. And money. And a gift card. Not to mention a dry cleaning receipt, a business card and a map. All of which pointed straight to Burger King.

See the wallet was a guerilla tactic for the new Reverse Pickpocket Campaign. We actually found The King’s wallet.

We laughed and looked for a camera (like the Whopper Freakout campaign), then tucked the wallet in our pockets to show the clients. It was a very apropos find.

Kudos to you, Crispin Porter + Bogusky for turning the dial a little farther. And if you were one of the 5,000 wallet-finders in Chicago, be happy that you got to be part of a great experiment. Spend that cash and gift cards, so more marketers will take advantage of alternative media.

Cycling is good for your health. It’s good for the environment. It’s good for healthcare workers.

Healthcare workers?

Yes, especially in places where people walk everywhere they go. Like in Africa, it’s nothing for the people of Zambia to trudge for hours to get water or to school. But if you give a person a bike, it takes four times less to commute. So people can do more for themselves and each other. And that’s where our favorite charity comes in.

World Bicycle Relief provides sustainable transportation to those who need it most. Here, watch this quick video from The Today Show that shows the power of bicycles in action:
